Are you interested in becoming Catholic? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process by which adults are prepared to receive the sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.

Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA)

Are you interested in becoming Catholic? Are you a baptized Catholic who has not yet received First Communion or Confirmation? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process by which adults are prepared to receive the sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.

At St. Mary Student Parish, RCIA is a journey of faith, discovery, and community. Our process is designed to help you explore the Catholic faith, ask questions, and grow in your relationship with God.

Who is OCIA for?

OCIA is for anyone seeking to grow in their relationship with God and the Catholic faith. The process welcomes:

Never Baptized

Those who have never been baptized and wish to become Catholic.

Baptized in Another Tradition

Those baptized in another Christian tradition who wish to become Catholic.

Baptized Catholics

Baptized Catholics who have not yet received First Communion or Confirmation.

The OCIA Process

The OCIA journey unfolds in four stages, each designed to guide you deeper into the Catholic faith at your own pace.

Inquiry Period (Pre-Catechumenate)

This is an informal time for asking questions and exploring the Catholic faith. No commitment is required. Inquiry sessions are held on a flexible schedule.

Catechumenate

For those who decide to continue, this is a period of more structured learning and formation. Catechumens (unbaptized) and candidates (baptized) learn about Catholic teachings, Scripture, prayer, and the liturgical life of the Church. Sponsors accompany catechumens and candidates on their journey.

Period of Purification and Enlightenment

This period coincides with Lent and is a time of intense prayer and preparation for the sacraments of initiation, which are celebrated at the Easter Vigil.

Mystagogy

After receiving the sacraments, the newly initiated continue to meet during the Easter season to reflect on their experience and deepen their understanding of the faith.

When Does OCIA Begin?
